Piman Sly is a 2-piece rock duo based in Bangkok, Thailand. Their music has hints of metal, stoner rock, grunge, hard rock and blues. Members are ‘Py’ (guitar/bass, vocal, lyrics) from Thailand; and ‘Iman’ (drums) from Indonesia.

3 years after founding the band, they have finally released their first single, ‘Family Portrait’, accompanied by a music video. The song discusses about psychosocial child maltreatment that stems from cultural pressures and societal expectations that many stereotypical ‘Asian’ children suffer from. Apart from the typical pressure imposed by parents like excelling in academia and career; marrying the right spouse and bearing grandchildren, a ‘normal’ gender or sexuality is very much an unwritten law, and any deviation from that is taboo.

LGBTQ children are one of the most suppressed and abused, and the band wanted to empower them through one of their local LGBTQ heroes, ‘Pat’ Chanudom. Although Pat was fortunate to be raised by parents whom understood her, supported her and gave her the freedom to be who she is, she agreed to lend us her talent and image to give a voice to those having to hide their true identities, ambitions or suffering from other forms of domestic abuse and suppression.

The word ‘Piman’ came from mixing the members’ names – Py and Iman – together. The Thai idiom ‘Pi-man Sa-laai’ means ‘shattered heaven’ or ‘Paradise Lost’ that is usually used to describe a broken home, a dysfunctional family, or an unrealized dream – which aligns with what their music is about.

Piman Sly ปล่อยซิงเกิ้ลและ MV แรก ‘Family Portrait’

Piman Sly (พิมานสลาย) คือดูโอร็อค 2 ชิ้นที่มีกลิ่นดนตรีแนว metal, stoner rock, grunge, hard rock และ blues ผสมรวมกัน โดยมีสมาชิกคือ ‘พาย’ (กีต้าร์/เบส, ร้องนำ, เนื้อร้อง) และ ‘อิหม่าน’ (กลอง) ซึ่งเป็นชาวอินโดนีเซียที่อาศัยอยู่ในประเทศไทย

วงพิมานสลายใช้เวลาถึง 3 ปีกว่าจะได้ปล่อยซิงเกิ้ลเพลงแรกพร้อม MV ซึ่งมีเนื้อร้องภาษาอังกฤษชื่อ ‘Family Portrait’ เนื้อร้องของเพลงนี้มีการกล่าวถึงปัญหาทางจิตของเด็กที่เกิดจากความกดดันภายในครอบครัวที่อาจมาจากวัฒนธรรม ประเพณี และความเชื่อทางสังคม ซึ่งนอกจากความกดดันจากพ่อแม่ที่ต้องการให้ลูกเรียนเก่ง ทำงานดี ๆ แต่งงาน และมีหลานให้ชื่นชมแล้ว การมีเพศสภาพที่ ‘ปรกติ’ ก็เป็นอีกหนึ่งสิ่งที่พ่อแม่มักคาดหวัง

เด็ก ๆ ที่มีเพศสภาพที่เรียกว่า LGBTQ ถือได้ว่าเป็นเด็กที่ได้รับความเครียดและกดดัน ทั้งจากพ่อแม่และสังคมรอบข้างเป็นอย่างมาก ทางวงจึงต้องการช่วยเรียกร้องสิทธิเสรีภาพในการได้เป็นตัวของตัวเองให้เด็ก ๆ เหล่านี้โดยได้รับความช่วยเหลือจาก พัด ชนุดม ที่เป็นเสมือนตัวแทนของชาว LGBTQ ในประเทศไทย ซึ่งแม้ว่าเธอจะได้รับความรัก ความเข้าใจ และการสนับสนุนจากพ่อแม่ให้ได้เป็นตัวของตัวเองมาโดยตลอด แต่เธอก็ยินดีเป็นปากเสียงให้กับเยาวชนชาว LGBTQ รวมถึงผู้ที่ถูกกดดันหรือลิดรอนสิทธิในการเป็นตัวของตัวเอง โดยการมาแสดงใน MV เพลง ‘Family Portrait’ นี้

ชื่อของวงนั้นเริ่มจากการผสมชื่อของ ‘พาย (Py)’ และ ‘อิหม่าน (Iman)’ กลายเป็นคำว่า ‘Piman’ หรือ ‘พิมาน’ จึงได้มีการเติมคำว่า ‘สลาย’ ต่อท้าย ซึ่งสื่อถึงบ้านหรือสังคมที่แตกร้าวและผิดเพี้ยน เข้ากับเนื้อหาแง่ลบในเนื้อเพลงต่าง ๆ ของวง
